Eternal Flame Keeps on Burning

When students look to find out what is going on around campus they usually pick up the latest issue of the Prairie.
But what happens when you head home and want to show everyone what happened the entire year? The solution is to pick up The Eternal Flame, the school’s photobook.
The Le Mirage, the actual yearbook for West Texas, was discontinued in the early 90’s because of disinterest and low sales.

Student Memorial Service Commemerates Life

Every year, thousands of students join the Buff Family. Student Memorial Services honors the loss of members of this family.
In the past year, three enrolled students passed away. The Student Memorial Service will take place Friday, April 23 at 2 p.m. at Hill Chapel. The service will be followed by a reception in the Hazel Kelley Room of the JBK. The freshmen class of 2010 read “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini as the common reader. The WT readership program was created to give freshmen a common experience that would expose them to the world outside of their own.
Every year the common reader is incorporated into the academics of freshmen level courses such as English or history.

As the fall semester ended, many students began preparing for their treks back home for the holidays. However, a hand-full of privileged West Texas A&M Mass and Speech Communication students, and a couple of faculty members, packed and planned for an exciting trip to Costa Rica.
The students were enrolled in a course titled Intercultural Communication. Dr. Anthony Spencer taught the undergraduate course, while Dr. Leigh Browning instructed the graduate course.

“Stuff” on Display

Rik Andersen, West Texas A&M University photographer, displays his “Stuff” in the Cornette Library First Floor Gallery.
“Stuff” is a diverse collection of photography projects created by Andersen throughout his career. The collection ranges from the WTSU newspaper, works from photography school, to even his personal photographs.
“I decided to call the show “Stuff” because that’s what it is, an eclectic collection of stuff I’ve created and collected through the years.”
