What’s On My Mind? – March Madness for Dummies

Ahh March is here… The sun is shining (for a couple days); spring break plans are coming together, green beer is mere days away and Sports Center has non-stop tournament talk. That’s right the NCAA Basketball tournament is quickly approaching. I have looked forward to breaking out the brackets and highlighters all year long, and the moment is finally upon us. But it just occurred to me that everyone doesn’t sit around and watch ESPN all day long like I ...

PHOTO | Courtesy of iStock.com
Spring Break to college students is the ultimate time to get away and have fun. However, what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. College students all across the country find that this is the best time to let loose and become someone they normally wouldn’t be.
Spring Break for many has become a time where rules are thrown to the wayside, and fun is the main priority. To help students have a safe and responsible ...

Funding a way out of the Rubble

Christian Relief Fund
Although most media attention has turned to new stories and new tragedies, the disaster in Haiti is far from over. One organization with a panhandle basis is continuing the relief ef¬fort in Haiti with help from WT student contributions.
“Hot Dogs for Haiti” and the door-to-door fundraiser in the campus residence halls raised money to go to Christian Relief Fund and the efforts of Dr. Milton Jones. Dr. Jones, President of the organization, went to Haiti to continue humanitarian ...

With about 208 students from about 48 countries, West Texas A&M University is a diversely rich institution, but how are international students being represented around campus?
Spread throughout different areas and majors of the University, these students work hard not only to get their degree, but also to go against boundaries of language and culture.
The International Student Society was founded a semester ago with the purpose of joining international ...

Shutter Island – Thriller compels second viewing

Official Movie Poster
When the trailer for Shutter Island first appeared last year, it suggested a creepy, perhaps a bit “over the top” horror film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, set for an October 2009 release. Partially the result of a bad economy (production studio Paramount claimed an inability to muster the $50-60 million for advertising) and DiCaprio’s unavailability for an international press tour (he was working on his next film by the fall), Shutter Island was held back until February 2010.
February is ...

Art for Art’s Sake

PHOTO | Frankie Sanchez
The landscape around Amarillo and Canyon is known for its dry and barren lands, the art community taking roots in the area is not. With the opening of several new art galleries including Studio 502, Vermillion Editions Limited and Blue Sage Galleries, artists have more of a chance to expose their creations.
“Stanley Marsh has already opened the door for the art world with his unique street signs and the Cadillac Ranch,” local artist Taylor Meyer said.
