Nursing student finds pride in family’s culture

dscn0250Walking through the halls of WT, students come from Texas, all across the United States and even other countries.

Everyone’s story is different however Farreen Ahmed, senior nursing major at WT, has one that is unique.

Ahmed’s parents came from Pakistan over thirty years ago, and brought with them the tradition, and values of the Muslim culture when they moved to Houston.

Her father encouraged her to take advantage of the great educational system America had to offer.

Ahmed enrolled at WT her freshman year in 2005 in hopes of pursuing her nursing degree.

“Growing up my parents installed in me a strict work ethic, so taking on a task like obtaining a nursing degree was not difficult for me to try to achieve,” Ahmed said.

She spends every other summer traveling back to Pakistan to stay with family and learn everything she can about her culture.

“Going back to Pakistan really allows me to appreciate everything I have here in America,” Ahmed said.

Life is much simpler, and much more comfortable here in the states, but I love my culture.”

When she is not busy studying, Ahmed enjoys spending time with her Delta Zeta sisters, and her two dogs.
