Course evals will move online

Near the end of every semester, students of West Texas A&M University can expect to fill out a course evaluation. Every semester, students are asked to fill out these evaluations, which give teachers and department heads student feedback on how the class was taught and how well the teachers did throughout the semester.

“The idea is it provides feedback,” Lynn Rosa, Part-Time Instructor of Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences, said. “It gives the student a voice in the quality of the education they are getting, it gives the instructor feedback which that helps us, and then it gives our department heads some gage of how things are going in the class room for the students.”

Even though course evaluations can be considered a proficient way for professors to get feedback and for the students to have a voice in the class, some students may have some mix feelings about course evaluations.

“I think in a way they are a great thing to have,” Laci Warren, WT student, said. “I feel like the questions they ask us on them are repetitive though. It seems they ask the same question ten different ways, but it is good to have them because I like having a chance to say what I think about the class.”

This semester WT is trying out something new with the course evaluations. A few selective courses have been asked to do their evaluations online now instead of in the class room.

“I think this could be a good thing if they do decide to change them to online now,” Kayla Moody, WT student, said. “Then we could save a little more time in the classroom that day. Also if they are going to ask us more questions or change them up and let us be able to write more out then we can give the teachers more feedback than before.”
