Organizations help in diversifying student body

Diversity means different things to different people, but there are similarities between most of the definitions. It is something that college campuses everywhere strive to succeed at.

There are organizations on every campus that help diversify the different communities. These organizations are there so that students can get involved and meet new people. These organizations are of very different varieties and all do different things, but they all have the goal of getting people involved.

“There are many groups on campus that help WT with diversity. For example, the Hispanic Student Association, the Black Men and Women’s Association, the International student organizations and more,” Broussard said.

The atmosphere that has been created at West Texas A&M University is considered diverse, and there are many different types of people around campus.

“We are a very diverse campus. I also see many people that I have never seen before, and there are always new people to meet,” Danielle Chrzanowski, senior SES major, said.

There are also the students on campus who do not think there are a wide range of people and organizations.

“WT is not diverse at all; honestly think that it’s one of the downfalls. People are expected to be a certain way here,” Carlye Dozier, junior Pre-Law major, said.

On WT’s campus, there is lots of diversity, but there is still more that could be done to help diversify the student body. There are always ways to get more people involved and get more students on WT’s campus.

“We can make sure that everyone always knows that they are welcome,” Chrzanowski said.

For some, diversifying college campuses starts at the very beginning of a college career. It starts with the making sure the new students know what the campus stands for.

“Changing the way people think/believe all starts with the incoming freshman class.” Dozier said.
