Seniors Lauren Bevan and Kameryn Hayes led the Lady Buffs volleyball team to a three-set sweep of the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Senior Day, Nov. 8, in “The Box.” They ended their volleyball careers at West Texas A&M University aggressively, with 22 combined kills in the match.

Bevan played her first season as a Lady Buff in 2013 after transferring from Yavapai College in Arizona. The Ventura, Calif. native contributed 10 kills to Saturday’s match, along with two blocks.

Bevan has a recorded 450 kills on the season so far, with three solo blocks and 52 assisted blocks. The outside hitter has also contributed seven assists, 25 service aces and 306 digs to the Lady Buffs in 2014.

For Bevan, the realization of playing her last regular season home game was nostalgic.

“It’s bittersweet for sure,” Bevan said. “It was really exciting to have the girls decorate the locker room for us, so it was definitely a special day. It’s exciting, but of course it’s going to be sad knowing that next weekend will be the last.”

Hayes began wearing a Lady Buff uniform in 2011 as a true freshman. She added 12 kills to Saturday’s sweep of the Lions, along with one block and one service ace.

This season, Hayes has contributed 293 kills to the WT volleyball team, with 834 total assists, 24 service aces, five solo blocks and 58 assisted blocks. The setter and right side hitter from Cypress has 257 digs under her belt this season.

After four seasons of being a Lady Buff, Hayes rests in the fact that she has left it all out on the court.

“It’s kind of unreal,” Hayes said. “I haven’t really grasped the concept yet. It doesn’t feel like that was my last regular season game. I wouldn’t say I’m sad. I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot here, and there were no wasted years, so I’m pretty happy with it.”

Prior to the match against the Lions, Bevan and Hayes were recognized by the athletic department. Fans showed up early to the game and stayed afterward as the team autographed WT Volleyball posters.

The seniors wrapped up their regular season careers at WT on Saturday, but the victory was not their last home game, as the Lady Buffs will host the Lone Star Conference tournament this weekend, Nov. 13-15, in “The Box.” The top-seeded Lady Buffs will make their conference tournament debut on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. as they battle the Lions from Texas A&M-Commerce, the number eight seed in the LSC.
