On Nov. 9 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon, the West Texas A&M Buffaloes will look to rebound, as they will be battling the University of West Georgia Wolves as part of the second annual LSC/GSC FIRST and Ten Challenge.  The Buffs have a record of 7-2 and 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference so far this season, while West Georgia is 5-4 and 1-3 in the Gulf South Conference.

The last time these two teams met was last season in Carrollton, GA where the Buffs came out on top with a 52-28 victory.  West Georgia could not stop WTAMU’s dominant air assault as then-junior quarterback Dustin Vaughan passed for 335 yards and five touchdowns.  With Vaughan marshaling the offense, the Buffs have produced more than 3,000 passing yards this season as compared to the 1,000 yards produced by the Wolves.

WT’s bread and butter is through the air, averaging more than 400 yards passing per game this season. However, the Buffaloes have since discovered a newfound rushing attack spearheaded by senior running back Aaron Harris and sophomore running back Geremy Alridge.  West Georgia, on the other hand, averages just over 100 yards per game, led by homegrown sophomore quarterback Dallas Dickey and senior quarterback Austin Trainor, a former Florida Atlantic transfer.

The strength of the Wolves lies in their running game, averaging more than 200 yards rushing per game and led by running backs Seth Hinsley and Quan Jones. Hinsley has compiled 549 yards while Jones has hauled in 574 yards for the red, white and blue clad Wolves this season. The Buffs defense will have to slow down the duo of Hinsley and Jones to achieve a convincing victory at Happy State Bank Field.  West Georgia scores an average of 29 points per game, as compared to the average of 59 points per game by the Buffaloes.

The Buffs are coming off an emotional 39-38 loss against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, seeking to take out their frustrations out on the visiting Wolves, who haven’t played since Oct. 31 in their 28-14 victory over the Florida Tech Panthers, a relative newcomer to the Gulf South Conference.
