Amarillo goaltender Paul Berrafato stopped 36 shots as the Amarillo Bulls shut out the Topeka RoadRunners at the Cal Farley Coliseum on Nov. 2. Amarillo made sure Topeka never lit the lamp, winning the game, 2-0.

While the first period was scoreless, there was plenty of action. Amarillo’s Mike Davis and Topeka’s Tyler Poulsen exchanged blows in a fight during the opening faceoff. Both players were sent to the penalty box. Only 70 seconds had passed into the game before each team had players in the penalty box. Topeka outshot Amarillo 15-12.

Tyler Gernhofer got the Bulls on the scoreboard when he drilled down the ice onto the right side and he blasted the puck into Topeka’s goal unassisted. This put the Bulls  up 1-0.

During the second period at 7:40, Amarillo’s Cody Gylling scored a close range shot putting the score at 2-0.  While Gernhofers goal was unassisted, Gylling had two assists from Kyle Gattelaro and Davis. Amarillo outshot Topeka 14-6.

During the third period, Amarillo goaltender Berrafato made some big stops. He even made a diving stop that put him in the midst of oncoming players, just to keep Amarillo in lead. Amarillo was quick to try gain the cushion of another point after this, but were unsuccessful on attempts to score.

Amarillo relied on their defense for the remainder of the game. While Amarillo shut down all seven power plays from Topeka, Amarillo was unable to produce anything from the four opportunities they had.  Topeka outshot Amarillo 14-7, as the Roadrunners outshot Amarillo 36-33 overall. There were 11 total power plays, as Topeka went 0-for-7 and as the Bulls went 0-for-4 that left with neither team scoring.

After sweeping the Roadrunners, the Bulls begin a two week long road trip as they visit the Lone Star Brahmas, Corpus Christi IceRays, and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees from Nov. 6 to Nov. 16. The Bulls then return to the Amarillo Civic Center to continue their campaign against  Rio Grande Valley on Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
