Ability Awareness is an event going on in the JBK from Oct. 28 to Oct. 29 .during lunch.  It is being held by Disability Services.

“The purpose of the event is to make students without disabilities aware of the daily struggles that other students have to face on,” Director of Student Disability Services Kerri Allen said.  “There are several events for students to participate in.”

There will be three tables in the commons that will have games relating to learning disabilities and visually/hearing impaired.  Prizes will be given out to people who participate.

“It went really well last year.  We printed off jumbled up paragraphs and students had to read them,” Junior Jessica Taylor said.  “It really opened a lot of people’s eyes to dyslexia and the effects the disorder has on people. “  Taylor ran the event last year and was happy with the results.

She hopes for similar results this semester.

“There is a big burst of freshman and transfer students coming in this semester, so there is more of an outreach,” Taylor said.

There will be lip reading practice, blind goggles, puzzle timers, sign language, brail and many more games to participate in.  The fun lasts from 11 to 1 p.m.
