The No. 11 Lady Buffs of WTAMU traveled to Stephenville, Texas on Oct. 4 and San Angelo, Texas on Oct. 5 and pulled off two four-set conference victories over the TexAnns of Tarleton State [17-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-18] and the No. 7-ranked Belles of Angelo State [25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15].

Versus Tarleton State the Lady Buffs dropped the first set, but were able to rally and take the final three sets for the victory and improved their record to 39-2 all-time against the TexAnns.

“[The TexAnns] came out of the gates impressive on offense and defense,” head coach Jason Skoch said.  “Their setter and libero made that a match.  [Emily] Klein, the libero, created so many digs for her team.  Danielle [Barker], the setter, was a leader and created so many good sets off poor digs.  [Have to give] credit to the players because they didn’t quit and came back.”

WT was led offensively by junior Lauren Bevan with eleven kills followed by sophomore Lexi Davis with ten.  Redshirt senior Laura Iwuchukwu had eight kills and nine blocks and junior Kameryn Hayes recorded a double-double with 32 assists and eleven digs.  Senior Halie Harton and redshirt freshman Lauren Britten recorded 18 digs apiece.

The Lady Buffs moved to 49-14 all-time with a victory over Angelo State on Saturday, extending their current winning streak to eight matches.

WT was led offensively by Bevan with a career-high 17 kills.  Harton recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs and Iwuchukwu racked up eleven kills and five blocks.  Hayes had 47 assists and Britten tied a career-high with 23 digs.

Skoch said he was particularly proud of Hayes for her performance over the weekend.

“Our ball control was not that good and she chased some balls down and made great effort plays,” Skoch said.  “She did what we call ‘bettering the ball.’  She had some amazing blocks at the end to seal the deal in the fourth set of ASU.  She did great this weekend.”

The Lady Buffs improved their overall season record to 14-3 and remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference play at 4-0.  They will enjoy two home games this week as they host Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and Texas Woman’s on Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.
