WTAMU’s 8th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be happening Thursday, Sept. 26. WT’s College of Education and Social Sciences is putting on the cook-off, and Dr. Robin Capt of the Education Department is in charge of the event.

“We do the chili cook-off every year just for fun. We like to give the students and faculty an opportunity to get out and win some trophies,” Capt said.

The chili cook-off is a free event open to all students and faculty as well as anyone associated with WT. Dr. Capt a encourages everyone to participate in the event, whether it’s eating chili or gathering a team to compete in the contest. The teams are made up of anyone associated with WT and are in groups of up to five.

“Since the cook-off has begun, we have had returning teams like the Greeks, janitors, and carpenters,” said Capt. WT’s sorority DZ is one of the Greek teams entering this year.

“DZ uses the chili cook-off as an opportunity to build sisterhood,” said DZ member Belynn Sharp.

Eating chili and winning trophies aren’t the only things to be done. The Bluster Bledsoe Band will also be playing live at the cook-off.

Students who have classes before and after lunch are encouraged to come get a free chili meal.

“I’ve been to the chili cook-off three times. The chili is always really good,” said graduating senior Daniel Garcia.

The chili cook-off will be located at the pedestrian mall on WT’s campus at 11:45 a.m.
