The seventh annual Buff-A-Rama fair is right around the corner. According to Ashlee Adams, the event, sponsored by CORE, is nonprofit and helps to inform children of different safety procedures. They provide dental and hearing screenings, and include free food and fun for children and families. The fair also allows students to volunteer and put their studies to use.

“Kids get distracted and don’t think about their safety,” Sheila Burke, nurse at Richardson Elementary School in Dimmitt, Texas, said. “Teaching bicycle safety teaches them how to be safe with their surroundings and also how to protect themselves.”

It is beneficial not only as an informative event but as an entertaining one, featuring face painting, fire trucks and even WTAMU’s mascot, Thunder.

“This is a great opportunity to bring the community together,” Krista Silva, freshman education major, said. “Families get together and have some fun for the weekend as well as get help in teaching their kids how to better take care of themselves.”

Buff-A-Rama is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Old Ed Lawn and parking lot. If face painting, safety and buffaloes isn’t enough to impress, then come for the free food!
