As students start coming back to WTAMU, they may notice construction at the campus entrance. The crews and equipment are there to help build Victory Circle, a monument that is the fourth phase of WT’s campus beautification project.

“We have had, for several years, a signage project to beautify the campus,” said Gary Barnes,  Vice President for Business and Finance. The first phase of the project began with construction east of the First United Bank Center and continued until today.

Victory Circle will serve as the new home for the Eternal Flame, a symbol of WT constructed in 1966 by the WTAMU Alumni Association.

“It’s going very neat,” said Dan Smith, Associate Vice President for Physical Facilities.

The project has been delayed for three weeks due to unexpected summer rains.

“We just had a tremendous amount of rain this summer,” said Smith.

Officials believe the construction will be finished soon despite the delay.

“No one can complain about the rain. It’s going very well in spite of the rain,” Barnes said.
