The No. 11 WTAMU Lady Buff volleyball team took a break from Lone Star Conference play to host the Dallas Baptist Patriots on Oct. 31. The Lady Buffs swept the Patriots in convincing fashion to improve their record to 22-4 overall and 12-3 in the LSC.

WT started set one by taking a 12-6 early lead going into a DBU timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Buffs went on a 13-5 run to win the set 25-11.

The Patriots built an early 6-3 lead in set two. DBU had a 14-9 lead when the Lady Buffs called a timeout; coming out WT went on a 9-4 run to tie the score at 18 all. The Lady Buffs would outscore the Patriots 6-4 to take the set 25-22.
“[DBU] came out and made some adjustments after the first set,” senior Erin Dougherty said. “They pushed and pushed but we were able to come back.”

WT would obtain an early 10-2 lead in the third set. After a back-and-forth set, the Lady Buffs would end up outscoring the Patriots 15-13 to clinch the set and the sweep by a 25-15 score.

Sophomore Kameryn Hayes led WT with 16 kills and Dougherty had 14 kills. Junior Halie Harton and senior Stormi Lancaster each had 11 kills on the night. Senior Lacy Hayes dished out 53 assists and senior Lauren Beville registered 16 digs, pulling her within 45 digs of the all-time Lady Buff record held by Sara Contreras, 2,248.

The Lady Buffs will continue conference play on Nov. 2 as they begin a three game road trip against Cameron, Midwestern on Nov. 3 and Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 6.
