International students at WTAMU got involved with Homecoming by serving the community and taking part in traditions.
Gustavo Barraza is a junior International Business and Marketing major from Colombia. As a member of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), he volunteered at the Homecoming parade. SIFE took refugee children to the parade.
“It was great seeing the little kids smile and how excited they were about WTAMU after seeing the homecoming parade,” Barraza said.
After the parade, they took the children out to eat pizza before returning them to their homes. Barraza also helped run the tailgate for the business department.
Kristin Kun Le, from Vietnam, is also a SIFE member. This was her first year to be involved with any kind of Homecoming activity.
“Everybody was talking about it; posters were everywhere,” Kun Le said. “In Vietnam, we don’t have Homecoming week like this, so it was really exciting to me.”
Kimberly Polleri, from Peru, used Homecoming week to meet people and make friends. Polleri participated in the dorm decorating contest with Shirley Hall. She helped with painting for their “Home on the Range” themed decorations.
“My favorite part was talking to other people and making a lot of friends,” Polleri said.
She said meeting new people is fun and gives her new opportunities to practice and improve her English skills. Polleri also attended the Tractor Pull event during Homecoming week.
