On Sept. 25, the No. 5 WTAMU Lady Buff volleyball team hosted the Midwestern State Mustangs on a day in which the WT community mourned the loss of a fellow student. After a moment of silence honoring Shelbi McClure, who was killed in a car accident, the Lady Buffs swept MSU to improve to 25-0 all-time against the Mustangs.
WT quickly grabbed a 10-4 lead against the Mustangs in set one. Despite MSU battling back throughout the set, the Lady Buffs was able to outlast the Mustangs and take the first set 25-20.
MSU went on a 9-2 run with a 4-4 tie to take a 13-6 lead in the second set. WT responded by outscoring the Mustangs 19-5 to take the set 25-18.
The Lady Buffs got off to a 12-4 start in the third set. Then, while leading 16-10, an 8-3 run by WT gave them a 24-13 lead. The Lady Buffs would end up sweeping the match with a 25-16 third set victory.
“We need to work on blocking and get ready for the weekend,” Skoch said.
WT earned their 13th consecutive win and improved to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the Lone Star Conference. The Lady Buffs will complete a three-game home stand with matches against Tarleton State at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28 and No. 11 Angelo State at 2 p.m. on Sept. 29.
