The No. 12 WTAMU Lady Buffs volleyball team hosted the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Oct. 27 for Senior Night. WT swept ACU 25-16, 25-5 and 25-11, boosting their record to 26-2 overall and 16-1 in Lone Star Conference action.

Erika Dupree was the lone senior the Lady Buffs honored. Fittingly enough, she had a huge game with three kills, two solo blocks and four block assists and she picked up three digs on the night.

“[Dupree’s] is the type of person everybody gets along with, but still respects,” Head Coach Jason Skoch said. “The team plays hard for her.”The Lady Buffs opened the first set by taking a 12-4 lead heading into an ACU timeout. The Wildcats would battle to get within five points of WT at 21-16. However, four straight points gave WT the first game victory.

WT started off game two by going on a 6-1 run. The Lady Buffs extended this lead to 11-4 going into a Wildcat timeout. WT finished the set strong with a 13-0 run.

“We’ve worked on defense mainly and I think that showed tonight,” junior Lacy Hayes said.

The Lady Buffs grabbed a small 5-3 lead early in the third set. WT then went on a 9-1 run to take a 14-4 lead into an ACU timeout. The Lady Buffs were able to finish the match by outscoring the Wildcats 11-7 over the remainder of the set.

“I saw a lot of things that we’ve been working on show up, everybody just did their jobs,” Skoch said.
