Severe winter weather enters area

Freezing fog will develop on Monday afternoon in the Canyon area. Monday night temperatures will be around five degrees with a wind chill below zero.

A spokesperson with the National Weather Service office in Amarillo said to expect snowfall after midnight to about 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. On Tuesday, the low will be one to two degrees and the high is expected to be nine to 10 degrees, with a windchill of -20 to -30 throughout the day.

Two to four inches of snow will be possible throughout the day with strong winds of 20 to 30 mph. Snow may pile in some areas because of strong winds, and road visibility will be reduced to less than a mile. There will be very little ice accumulation, but drivers should be careful on area roads because of limited visibility.
