Buffs ground Falcons

Improve to 9-0 on the year

The WTAMU men’s basketball team took a short break from preparing for finals to take on Texas-Permian Basin Dec. Dec. 15 at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

WT used a strong offensive attack to keep UTPB chasing them all night as the Buffs claimed a 68-56 victory, keeping them perfect on the season.

In the first half it looked as though WT was going to run away with proceedings as they turned a 12-5 lead into a 14 point lead thanks to a 10-3 run.  With 7:21 left in the first half, the Buffs led 22-8.

UTPB though came back with a strong response using a 16-2 run of there own to tie the game at 24-24 with 3:06 remaining in the first.  The Falcons then took the lead at 29-28 with 46 seconds remaining before halftime.  Thanks to a David “Chubby” Henderson layup, the Buffs went into the locker room leading 30-29.

Defense was the name of the game in the second half for WT.  UTPB went scoreless on 10 of their first 14 possessions of the period.  At the 13:12 mark, the Buffs held a 48-37 advantage.

WT’s offense made sure that this was not going to be a close contest as the Buffs kept up their hot shooting and eventually came away with a 68-56 victory over the Falcons.

Leading the scoring on the night for the Buffs was junior Lionel Foster with 15 points followed by fellow junior Rod Little with 13 points.  Senior Joe Mincey chipped in 10 points on the night as well.

The Buffs will now prepare for #13 ranked Central Oklahoma on Dec. 18.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. from the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
