Lady Buffs sweep ENMU

The WTAMU Lady Buff volleyball team was back in LSC play Oct. 26 taking on the Lady Zias of Eastern New Mexico at Greyhound Arena.

WT swept ENMU, and in the process tied its own record streak of 77 consecutive LSC victories.

The Lady Zias came out strong in the first set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead.  It was a back and forth match as both teams struggled to gain the upper hand.  A pair of 5-0 runs by the Lady Buffs eventually put away ENMU as WT won 25-19.

The Lady Buffs kept up the momentum in the second set as an 11-4 run helped spark WT to a 25-17 triumph.

ENMU didn’t go down without a fight though.  In the third set, the Lady Zias made things interesting when they got within two points at 22-20.  But, WT proved to be too much as they pulled out a 25-21 third set victory.

Junior Erika Dupree tallied her 15th double-double of the season with a career-high 35 digs and 10 assists.  Dupree was also named LSC Setter of the Week Oct. 26.  Senior Lauren Thedford posted her 10th double-double of the season with a career-high 17 kills and 13 digs.  She also hit a new career-high hitting percentage at .552.

Freshman Ashley Davis recorded nine kills and tallied a hitting percentage of .292.  As a team the Lady Buffs hit .288 on the night compared to ENMU’s hitting percentage of .188.

The Lady Buffs overall record now stands at 19-8 overall with a perfect 11-0 mark in LSC play.  WT will have a chance to make history Oct. 28th against Tarleton State at Wisdom Gym in Stephenville, Texas.  With a win the Lady Buffs will set a new NCAA Division II record for longest conference winning streak.  First serve is set for 7 p.m.
