Volleyball extends LSC winning streak

The #22 ranked Lady Buff volleyball team opened Lone Star Conference play this weekend against Texas A&M Commerce and Texas Woman’s University.

On Thursday night the Lady Buffs took on the Lions of Commerce and came away with a 3-0 sweep.

In the match the Lady Buffs hit a season- high .337 percentage as a team while hold- ing the Lions to a .088 percentage.

Freshman Ashley Davis led the team with 14 kills and ended the match with a .440 hitting percentage. Senior Lauren Thedford recorded eight kills and 14 digs on the night. Junior Erika Dupree had a team- high 18 assists and freshman Robin Marsala chipped in 16 assists.

The Lady Buffs played again Saturday afternoon, taking on the Pioneers of Texas Woman’s University.

WTAMU dominated the first set, but TWU fought back before eventually falling in four sets to the Lady Buffs.

The win was the 16th straight over TWU and improved the overall record to 33-6 all time against the Pioneers.

Dupree recorded her third triple-double of the season with 13 kills, 21 assists, and 14 digs. Thedford finished with 10 kills for the match. Davis had nine digs in the match. Senior Teresa Dunn had 13 assists coming off the bench for the Lady Buffs. Sophomores Lauren Beville and Kelsey Mangum also tallied double-digit digs in the victory.

With the win, the Lady Buffs extended their LSC winning streak to 51 games, which is the seventh-longest streak of all time in NCAA Division II.

The Lady Buffs will take a night off from LSC play on Tuesday Sept. 21st when they host Wayland Baptist at 7 p.m. before hitting the road to resume conference play against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sept. 23rd.
