Former presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee will be speaking at the First United Bank Center as the University’s Centennial Speaker on March 31 at 7 p.m.
Huckabee’s visit to campus was orchestrated by the Distinguished Lecture Series who chose the former governor of Arkansas to be the culmination of the spring celebration of WT’s 100th year.
Huckabee will be speaking on, “The Pursuit of the Presidency and the Perfectly Insane American Process.”
One student member of the Distinguished Lecture Series Committee, Nick Goettsche, said he feels Huckabee is a good choice to speak to students.
“He’s a good role model,” Goettsche said. “I believe he has good beliefs and morals.”
Although Huckabee gained national attention in the months preceding the 2008 Republican primary, Huckabee has maintained a place of prominence.
Huckabee is still active in the political arena. On a nationwide scale, he created HuckPac to assist Republicans running for office.
He currently hosts Huckabee, a talk show that blends politics and entertainment, on FOX News. His radio show, “The Huckabee Report,” broadcasts three times a day, five days a week on Citadel Media Network and is credited as the fastest growing show on the station in years. These two new jobs add to the several jobs Huckabee has had in his lifetime.
“I think the American people can relate to him because he’s multifaceted,” Goettsche said.
Huckabee is the author of seven books that cover topics from his views on leadership to his dramatic weight loss. Students like Rebecca Graves feel like his success as an author adds to Huckabee’s already lengthy list of accomplishments.
His book, “Doing the Right Thing,” became a New York Times Best Seller.
“That’s pretty impressive,” Graves said. “I tried to write a book once, and it didn’t get very far.”
After the speaking event, Huckabee will be available to sign one of his many books.
The event is free of charge and open to the public.
