The Lady Buffs lost for the first time this season, 1-0 when they met the Zias of Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M.
The Lady Buffs put up 11 shots on goal, but the Zias’ 12 shots and 1 goal gave them the win.
WTAMU women’s soccer has a record of 6-1-1.
A cross pass from the left side by sophomore midfielder Danielle Thurman to freshman forward Brittany Bustos gave Bustos the first and only goal of the match.
“We were expecting a hard game,” Butch Lauffer, head coach, said. “Anytime we go there it is always a bit of a challenge.”
Junior goalkeeper Kelly Skehan picked up her first loss at the goal this season with six saves in her 90 minutes of play.
The Lady Buffs seem optimistic about their upcoming games at home.
“Home fans are a definite advantage,” Lauffer said.
WT women’s soccer face Central Oklahoma Oct. 2 at the Pitch at 1 p.m. followed by a match against Southwestern Oklahoma on Oct. 4.
