The Buffs dominated UT-Permian Basin in their home opener, winning 7-1. Two goals from Manuel Garcia, freshman midfielder, and Ben Everson, junior forward, led the Buffs to the convincing win.
Despite the score, Head Coach Butch Lauffer said a win against UT-Permian Basin is never easy.
“They are always a tough team for us to play,” Lauffer said. “They’re going to be motivated. I’m sure they will be well prepared to play. They are going to try and come in here and get a victory.”
The Buffs jumped out to a 1-0 lead following a goal by Jose Chavez, freshman midfielder, in the 13th minute. Back-to-back goals from Garcia and a late first half goal from Everson gave the men a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime.
“The boys want to play at home, we want to win at home,” Victor Olivares, senior forward, said.
The Buffs move to 4-1 on the season and are ranked #1 in the region. They will put that #1 ranking on the line as they travel to Wichita Falls to face Midwestern State University. Game time is 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18.
