Tuesday afternoon was one of the most beautiful days this year, making it a perfect day for softball at the Lady Buff Yard.
The Lady Buffs took on Oklahoma Panhandle State University in a double header that started at noon.
The Lady Buffs took home the sweep, with a 13-0 win in the first game and a 7-0 win in the second. This improves their record to 15-4 overall this season.
The tallest of the Aggies reached a whopping 5’10” making it difficult for pitchers Lindsey Wright and Shelby Cockrell to hit the sweet spot from the mound. That didn’t stop the Lady Buffs from taking out their frustration of a previous loss to ACU last weekend.
The Lady Buffs began the first game with bats swinging. Freshman center fielder Kimberly LeComte opened the door with an RBI single to center field bringing in short stop Amber Farr for the first run of the game. The attacks continued as designated hitter Meghan Brown hit another RBI single, giving LeCompte a stomp at home plate. Left fielder Erin Hartigan singled up the middle for yet another RBI allowing Brown to score making it an early 5-0 lead.
“We’re happy we got two wins on the home turf,” said Hartigan. “But we’re not satisfied with our offensive performance. We may have put up twenty runs, but we know our offense is better than that. We realize we have to be better going into the conference series with Texas Women’s this weekend.”
The second game, the Lady Buffs let their bats fly again during the bottom of the first with Lecomte hitting an RBI single down the left field line to bring in Amber Farr for the 1-0 lead. The bottom of the second inning, the Lady Buffs brought in five runs on five hits lifting the lead to 6-0.
At the bottom of the fifth, right fielder Whitney Midkiff connected with a single bringing home Audrey Wallace for the last and final run of the game winning the sweep, 7-0.
