The U. S. is roughing its way through hard times. Prices are going up, jobs are being lost and our everyday lives are changing.
Another problem, one close to all of our hearts, is the issue of another possible tuition increase.
The President’s Blog is a set up to help students understand and voice their opinions about the raise of tuition. There are many posts from students who are angered and upset about the tuition as it is, the education they’re receiving, and the professors they’re receiving it from.
Some are claiming that furthering one’s education is becoming impossible because the president of our school, the athletes, and the faculty and staff are taking all the money without focusing on bettering the school.
What they don’t know is that our educators are also the middle class struggling for survival. They also have kids who they are trying to send to college and receive the same education we are, paying the same price, if not more.
According to The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), WT’s designated tuition is below average, placing 23rd out of a list of 34 schools. Texas Tech being 9th on that list. Before students start complaining about our tuition at WT, they should take a look at what other people are paying.
Our educators deserve to be paid more. Our school needs the tuition increase to provide us with the best higher education possible. I support the tuition increase, and I wish those who don’t would support their arguments instead of bashing our school with no just argument.
Count your blessings, people. It could always be a lot worse.
