Lady Buffs Fall 1-0 to Dallas Baptist University

Three days after winning their season opener 7-0 in Odessa, Texas, the West Texas A & M Lady Buffs fell to the Dallas Baptist Patriots 1-0 on Monday in Dallas.

The only goal of the game was scored with 13 minutes left in the second half when Patriots’ player Danielle Presley took a breakaway shot off a pass from teammate Kourtney Edwards.

DBU led in shots during the match, outshooting WT 13 to 10. Lady Buffs newcomer Leslie Briggs followed up her spectacular game on Friday by tallying three shots on Sunday, leading WT. Juniors Becky Peth and Melissa Carnero also tallied up two shots each.

WT goalie Yvette Bedoy had five saves against DBU during her 90 minutes in net and was credited with the loss in goal, bringing her stats to 1-1 this season.

“We worked hard but we can work better. We’re definitely learning a lot, there’s just more to learn about one another and the team. I’m pretty confident in my teammates, we just need to play as a unit,” senior defender Heather Hollis said.

The Lady Buffs’ first home game of the season is Friday Sept. 9 against Southwestern Oklahoma State University at The Pitch with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
